We are excited to share this heartwarming account from our church’s recent involvement in the Foster Kids Thanksgiving Dinner. The following article was written by Shirley Coomer to capture the spirit of the event.
I attended the Foster Kids dinner last evening. There were 22 group homes in attendance and 250 foster kids. There were 20-plus Mesa Police officers serving the kids and many volunteers.
This picture was taken of the hall before dinner started. Desert Foothills was recognized as one of the founders and sponsors of this event. We were also recognized for our pie donation (20-plus desserts, pies, and brownies).
Thank you to Sharon Matt Newman for helping set up on Sunday. Kevin Chadwick and Shirley Coomer from DFUMC served the foster kids Monday evening.
The Arizona Cardinals entertained the kids, including providing several raffle prizes.
Our church participated in a fantastic event to make a difference in these kids' Thanksgiving.
Texas Road House donated and cooked all the food (turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, yams, stuffing, mac and cheese, and their famous rolls). A few folks flew in from Louisville, Kentucky (their headquarters) to participate.
Thank you to all who helped make this event a success and to those who continue to support our foster care community.
