980 Meals, Countless Blessings: A Summer of Service at Desert Foothills UMC

From May 13 to August 12, the spirit of compassion and service was alive and well at Desert Foothills United Methodist Church. Each Tuesday morning this summer, members of our church family gathered to prepare sack lunches for the homeless seniors served by the Justa Center — a simple act that made a powerful impact.

What began as a weekly effort turned into a remarkable ministry of care. Over the course of three months, we assembled and delivered 980 sack lunches, each containing two sandwiches, chips, fruit, and a granola bar — totaling an incredible 1,960 sandwiches made with love and purpose.

Behind every meal was a team of faithful volunteers who gave their time, energy, and hearts. Whether you donated supplies, helped assemble lunches, or made the trip downtown to deliver them, your contribution mattered. Together, we provided not just food, but a reminder to 980 individuals that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten.

This ministry wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity and dedication of our congregation. In every packed lunch, we extended the hands and feet of Christ to those in need — living out our calling to serve with compassion.

To everyone who participated: thank you for keeping the spirit of service alive. We are deeply grateful.

    With heartfelt appreciation,
The Missions Team & Sandwich Crew Leaders
